Tinline Property announces first steps of ‘Richmond Mall Reimagined’

Design concept of the refurbished concourse as part of Stage 1, opening in September 2025

MEDIA RELEASE

4 OCTOBER 2024

Something exciting is happening at Richmond Mall with construction starting on ‘Richmond Mall Reimagined’ – a multi-stage project and the latest transformation of the mall. This first stage involves the reconfiguration of what was the Fresh Choice store, opening late 2025 with a mix of new and existing retailers.

Nelson-based property investment and management company Tinline Property has owned Richmond Mall for over 30 years and has continuously invested in the mall as customer needs have changed over time. Its stewardship has included the establishment of ‘anchor’ stores PAK’nSAVE (opened 1996), Farmers (opened 2002), and Fresh Choice Richmond, which closed earlier this year, as well as its expansion of the mall’s retail and carpark footprint in the 2000s.

Tinline Property CEO Jamie Gaskell says ‘Richmond Mall Reimagined’ is a testament to the family-owned company’s ongoing commitment to investing in Nelson Tasman.

“Richmond Mall is an important destination for Nelson-Tasman, especially as the Tasman region continues to have one of the highest rates of population growth in the country. We're proud of the way the mall has evolved over time with the needs of the region, our tenants and their customers, and it is time for the mall to evolve again into a truly regional shopping destination.”

“We’ve listened to what our customers want – a wider range of stores, national brands not currently in the region and more exciting customer experiences. ‘Richmond Mall Reimagined’ is committed to delivering that.”

“After Stage 1, the next larger stage of the project will enhance the retail offer with more fashion and lifestyle brands and provide a new food court, while also introducing exciting evening dining options. We’re still working through final plans, which we will be able to share publicly in the new year.”

Richmond Mall Centre Manager Belinda de Clercq says there will be minimal disruption to customers during Stage 1 work. “Most of the work will be happening behind-the-scenes, with builders accessing the construction space via the loading dock. There may be occasional periods of extra noise – but we will work hard to keep this to a minimum.

“The mall remains open during this stage of development, and we appreciate everyone’s support and patience in advance. We look forward to delivering an exciting and refreshed shopping and lifestyle destination for our region.”

De Clercq adds that customers can sign up to the mall’s newsletter via the website, to keep up to date with what is happening at the mall.
